Santa Fe Pro Musica's 'Messiah' relaxed but lacked drive.

The wonder of Handel's writing his "Messiah" in just twenty-eight days never lessens nor do its appearances around the holiday season, as the recent spate of performances evidences.

Saturday evening at Albuquerque's Faith Lutheran Church, Santa Fe Pro Musica weighed in with its original instruments version to an enthusiastic audience of respectable size, though not the sold-out house of the night before in Santa Fe nor the crowd of last year's Pro Musica effort.

Albuquerque this year may have reached the saturation point.

Kenneth Slowik, now the chamber orchestra's conductor as well as director of the Smithsonian Chamber Orchestra, returned once again to lead the performance. …
