Tent Rocks Plan Deserves Action.(Opinion)

The strangely beautiful cluster of tall tufa cones near Cochiti Pueblo is unique in the country, according to the Democrat's staffers, and a very popular hiking spot. More than 10,000 people visit Tent Rocks and its wonderful slot canyon each year.

Local governments, including Santa Fe County and the pueblo council, support the monument designation. The Bureau of Land Management, which currently controls it, agrees.

Bingaman has urged President Clinton to act before he leaves office next month. Under the Federal Antiquities Act, the president can designate an area as a monument without waiting for Congress to do so. …
