Lease Revenue Falls Below Expectations

Long before Santa Fe's enterprise fund troubles received City Council attention, there was the railroad yard.

Not categorized as an enterprise fund services that theoretically pay for themselves through collected fees the railroad yard was nonetheless expected to pay for at least 30 percent of its own expenses. But it is projected financial breakdown: The 50-acre property is on course to deplete cash reserves as soon as 2002.

"There's more than enough land here to pay for what must be paid for," said Steve Brugger, city director of the railroad yard.
