Blood Clot Ends Wolfgang Season

University of New Mexico women's basketball coach Don Flanagan might have lost a player for the season, but he knows the news could have been much worse.

Point guard Brittany Wolfgang of Texas will be sidelined for the remainder of her freshman season following the discovery of a blood clot on her shin.

"I'm just really thankful we got a hold of it in time," Flanagan says. "There are athletic injuries, and there are things that could occur that affect somebody's health. This is just a game and a small portion of (his players') lives. We'll get her healthy and then worry about basketball."

UNM doctors originally thought the 5-foot, 7-inch Wolfgang, from Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas, had suffered a stress fracture. …
