Proposed Center To Sit Near Rio Rancho

The Watermelon Mountain Ranch of Sandoval County took another step toward becoming a no-kill animal shelter this week when a project office was dedicated in Bernalillo.

"Animal Humane Association of New Mexico opened their Watermelon Mountain Ranch project office in donated space at 136 Calle de Presidente in Bernalillo," Sophia DiClemente president of the Sandoval Chapter of Animal Humane Association said recently. "The purpose of this chapter office of Animal Humane Association of New Mexico is to raise funds and actually build the facilities."

DiClemente did not disclose who donated the space.

In October, the Sandoval County Commission approved a $1 million bid submitted by the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico to manage the shelter. …
