Sandia Edges 'Dogs In APS Tournament

Brandon Rich scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half to lead Los Alamos to a 59-55 comeback win over Cibola and spoil a 29-point outing by Mikal Monette Thursday night in the Albuquerque Academy Invitational.

Cibola (2-1) led 51-44 on Chris Lange's spinning lay-in with 4:46 to play, but the Cougars turned the ball over on five of their next six possessions. Los Alamos (3-0) took advantage with a 12-0 run to take the lead for good. Rich was instrumental, hitting 7 of 9 foul shots in the fourth quarter.

The game, which featured a battle of Division-I-bound posts in Los Alamos' Chris Jackson and Cibola's Lange, was tied 10 times and had numerous lead changes. But the Cougars were unable to keep pace down the stretch.

Jackson finished with 13 points and five blocks, while Lange ended up with 10 points.

ALBQ. ACADEMY 80, TOHATCHI 41: Cody Toppert scored 24 points in roughly two quarters of play to lift the host Chargers (4-0) to an easy win over the Cougars (0-4).

Academy, which had 10 of its 11 players score, led 14-4 after one quarter and 37-14 at halftime. …
