Ex-class clown pays tribute to B'nai Israel teacher.(Personalities)

Professional comedian Marc Maron is one step closer to religious enlightenment, having performed recently in the sanctuary of the conservative Congregation B'nai Israel.

Maron, who grew up in Albuquerque and attended Hebrew school at B'nai Israel, flew in from New York to be the only act in a comedy fund-raiser in honor of longtime B'nai Israel teacher Marilyn Reinman.

Maron was a student of Reinman when he was 8 years old, and she recalled that he was funny even then. She said he's really funny now. "He had us in stitches," she recalled.

Reinman has been teaching beginning Hebrew at B'nai Israel for more than 30 years and is now interim director of the religious school. In 1979, she was the first female president of the congregation and is a past president of the Sisterhood. She still serves on the Sisterhood's board of directors. She is married to Richard Reinman and has two grown daughters and four grandchildren.

Her dedication to the congregation was one reason she was chosen as this year's honoree. …
