Frank Sancet Field in Tucson is becoming a chamber of horrors for the University of New Mexico baseball team.

Twelve times, the Lobos have tried to beat Arizona on its home field. Twelve times, they've come up empty.

The latest nightmare occurred Thursday when the Wildcats (6-7) beat up UNM starter Chris Cooper in the eighth inning on the way to a 9-3 victory. Cooper allowed eight hits and walked five in seven-plus innings, including allowing four runs in the eighth inning without recording an out.

The Lobos (0-4) managed only six hits, although designated hitter Matt Alexander did slug a solo homer off Arizona starter Marc Kaiser and second baseman Troy Cairns had two hits and an RBI. …
