House Panel Tables 4 Bills Cutting Medical Sales Tax.(Legislature)

Chairman Seeking Compromise Version

SANTA FE The House Business and Industry Committee on Thursday tabled four bills that would eliminate or reduce a sales tax on medical services.

Committee chairman Fred Luna, a Democrat from Los Lunas, said he wanted the four sponsors to write a compromise bill and give it to him sometime next week.

Two of the bills would phase out the gross receipts tax on medical doctors and osteopaths. The other two bills would reduce or remove the tax on a wider range of medical workers, including dentists and psychologists.

Physicians pay a tax on their medical services that varies across the state but averages about 6 percent. …
