Board Will Be Asked To OK Plan

The Santa Fe Public Schools board of education will be asked later this month to endorse a plan to increase the number of teachers yearly at the district's four middle schools.

To give teachers two planning periods a day and offer a mix of elective classes beyond the basic academic subjects, the four middle schools need 20 more teachers, district officials say. That need could shift based on enrollment in the future.

In a two-hour study session Thursday, board members met with middle school principals, teachers, the district superintendent and associate superintendents to gain deeper insights into frustration at the schools. …
