Officers' Absence From Hearings Prompt Changes in Procedure.(Metro & New Mexico)

After Albuquerque Police Department officers failed to show up for a number of driver's license revocation hearings recently, the department made adjustments to avoid a similar occurrence, Police Chief Jerry Galvin said Wednesday.

An official with the state Taxation and Revenue Department reported last week that dozens of Albuquerque drivers who were arrested in connection with drunken driving got to keep their licenses when city police officers failed to attend revocation hearings that week.

The officers failed to show up after subpoenas telling them when to appear before a hearing officer were lost. As a result, the drivers who later may be convicted of drunken driving in Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court will still be allowed to drive. …
