Pedestrians Focus Of 'Centers, Corridors'

Jo Creange wants to cross the street safely.

But as general manager of the Page One bookstores which sit on opposite sides of a busy street Creange often contends with the speedy traffic that zips through Juan Tabo and Montgomery NE. It can take courage to cross that intersection, she said.

"It's like you take your life in your hands even with the traffic signals," Creange said Wednesday.

City planners and others want to change that. A planning effort called "Centers and Corridors" is aimed in part at making Albuquerque's natural centers, including the Juan Tabo intersection, more hospitable to pedestrians. …
