Districts Join Suit Over Medicaid.

Rio Rancho and Bernalillo school districts have joined in a lawsuit against the state Human Services Department.

A hearing on the matter is scheduled before the state Supreme Court at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Santa Fe.

The case can go directly to the Supreme Court if one state agency sues another, Santa Fe attorney Jacquelyn Archuleta-Staehlin said, and if "they (the lawsuits) are of great public concern."

Across New Mexico, the state has withheld about $6.9 million in Medicaid funding from school districts, Archuleta-Staehlin said, citing a recent Legislative Finance Committee report.
