Recent snows have put a damper on prescribed burning in the Sandia Ranger District. Forest Service crews burned 14 acres of slash piles in Armijo Canyon near Sandia Park on Jan. 22, but probably will not burn again until March.

"There's too much snow," said Karen Takai, fire information officer for the district. Takai said the Sandia Ranger District will notify the community where and when it plans to burn again. Notices about prescribed burns are posted on bulletin boards at local restaurants and at the library in Tijeras. …
