Moriarty Wrestlers Don District 4 Crown.(Sports)

The Moriarty High wrestling team scored a big takedown Friday night at the District 4-4A championships at the Moriarty gymnasium.

Leaving little doubt that they are a team to be reckoned with at next weekend's Class 4A state championships in Farmington, the Pintos captured nine individual district titles and simply ran away with the team trophy.

Moriarty racked up a robust 189 points and left runner-up Goddard in its dust with 100. Roswell was third with 99 points, and Albuquerque Academy finished fourth at 45.

The district championship was the fourth in as many years for the Pintos.

"Every one of our varsity wrestlers qualified to go to state," Moriarty coach Joey Gonzales said. …
