Proponents of East Mountains incorporation collected about 225 signatures last weekend in support of a special election on incorporation.

Melanie Monson, a member of the committee working to incorporate 1,764 acres along N.M. 14 and Frost Road into a new municipality, said about 20 volunteers collected signatures at Triangle Grocery and the Shell gas station in Sandia Park on Saturday and Sunday. Some volunteers also went door-to-door, Monson said.

The proposed incorporation area includes parts of Sandia Park up to San Antonito Elementary School to the north, and land along Frost Road to the east. …
