Tajique Had Warned Its Nonpaying Users

Following through on threats it first made last summer, the Tajique Mutual Domestic Water Association began shutting off water Sunday to customers who haven't paid their bills.

The water association, which serves about 50 households in Tajique, will continue to deny water to those who refuse to pay for it, said Barbara Christy, vice president of the water association's board of directors.

"About a dozen people are on the cut-off list," said Christy, adding that the first person who got his water shut off was a Torrance County sheriff's deputy. Christy said the deputy paid his bills Monday and his water was turned back on. …
