Trout Restoration Plan Hearings Set.

The state Department of Game and Fish has scheduled a public meeting for Tuesday to review a trout restoration project that will take place this summer on the headwaters of Costilla Creek on Vermejo Park Ranch.

The meeting will take place at the Community Center in Costilla. The New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission has also scheduled a hearing for March 5 in Taos to review the proposed project.

Peter Wilkinson, assistant chief of fisheries for New Mexico, said wildlife agencies in New Mexico and Colorado are planning to restore native Rio Grande cutthroat trout to the upper forks of Costilla Creek, but for that to succeed the native brook trout must first be removed. …
