ALBUQUERQUE The Los Alamos boys basketball team had a chance to grab a share of District 2-4A's driver's seat Wednesday night at St. Pius.

Instead, the Hilltoppers find themselves in a second-place tie, one game behind Espanola Valley and scrambling.

Bedeviled by St. Pius guards Daniel Lovato and Joseph Montano, Los Alamos ended up on the short end of a 77-62 decision that wasn't even as close as the score indicated. Espanola, at the same time, was busy knocking off Capital High 80-65 in Santa Fe and securing first place.

Slashing to the basket time after time, Montano collected 23 points and Lovato added 20 to lead the Sartans' cause. …
