Man Is Being Held On Forgery Charges

Santa Fe police arrested an Arizona man Wednesday on suspicion of trying to cash a forged check and impounded several dogs they said they believe he was keeping in a closed trailer without food or water.

Joshua Smith, 18, was arrested around 4:40 p.m. after employees at Wells Fargo Bank at 345 W. Cordova Road became suspicious of his attempts to cash a check, police Maj. Kim Koomoa said. The bank employees stalled Smith until police arrived, Koomoa said. Koomoa wasn't certain how much the check was for.

After arresting Smith, police learned he had a vehicle and a U-Haul trailer parked nearby. …
