Pecos Bond OK Would Lower Taxes.

A Pecos bond election in May scheduled recently by the school board after residents complained about the board raising property taxes without voter approval is driven by a vision of placing the latest computer technology on the desks of every student.

"We're looking at wireless technology," said Pecos superintendent Harrell Holder said. "It would be available to every classroom on every student's desk. And our students would be able to work outside the buildings."

If voters approve the $2.7 million general obligation bond, the board has agreed to discontinue the controversial "education technology note" the board took out last year a debt that raised property taxes in the Pecos school district by an average of 50 percent. …
