Firm Studied Fire's Impact on Values

LOS ALAMOS Results of an accounting firm's preliminary study on property values in the wake of the Cerro Grande Fire should not be taken as gospel by the federal agency in charge of compensating victims for their losses, a Los Alamos homeowner warned Wednesday.

"I would caution (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) to be careful to draw the lines and not let this trickle down to the people who handle claims" for the federal agency, John Kaszuba said at a public forum on the recently released study.

Kaszuba and approximately 170 other residents and business people from Los Alamos and nearby White Rock turned out to comment on the results of PricewaterhouseCoopers' preliminary study of the economic impact of the fire on private real estate. …
