Voters Send Tafoya Back for 4th Term

Bernalillo voters resoundingly approved a $10 million bond election Tuesday night but unseated one of its board members.

Margaret Palumbo of Placitas lost her board seat to Nancy Walker of Algodones in a five-person race for District 3, according to unofficial results.

Board Vice President Lorenzo Tafoya will return to the board for his fourth term, after taking about 72 percent of the votes to defeat Olivia Calabaza in District 2.

The election drew about a 20 percent voter turnout.

Walker drew about 32 percent of the District 3 vote, with Palumbo getting about 28 percent. Stephen Parker had about 25 percent, followed by Charles Mellon with 10 percent and Severo Luna with 5 percent. …
