* Espanola business owner raises funds, asks council to rethink vote

ESPANOLA About 50 residents armed with $4,000 in donations asked the City Council on Tuesday to reconsider its vote to auction more than 100 confiscated guns, most of which have been linked to crimes in the city.

JR Trujillo, owner of QUICKfix ACE Home Improvement Centers in Espanola, told the council he raised $4,005 in six hours last week from 41 businesses in Espanola that want the guns destroyed as a message against violence.

The city estimated it would raise about $4,000 from the auction so Trujillo said he would donate the money he raised to the city if the guns were destroyed instead. …
