Rio Grande's Press Puts Away Sandia.(Sports)

Desperation proved a valuable ally to the Rio Grande High School boys basketball team Tuesday night.

After Sandia's snipers blasted them into a 16-point, third-quarter hole, the Ravens were forced to use full-court defensive pressure in an attempt to come back.

Ten minutes and seven Matadors' turnovers later, the second-ranked Ravens were celebrating a thrilling 68-62 road win over third-ranked Sandia.

"We didn't really want to press," Rio Grande coach Ron Garcia said. "We have a lot of respect for (Sandia guards) Jeremy Lopez and Jeff Hart, but we had no choice. We had to turn it into a helter-skelter game to come back. …
