Albuquerque should abandon its opposition to a cut in sales taxes for New Mexico physicians, Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M., wrote this week in a sharply worded letter to Mayor Jim Baca.

The state must repeal the gross receipts taxes on health care to prevent doctors from fleeing the state, Wilson said.

Baca responded that Albuquerque officials would oppose repealing the gross receipts tax only if legislators fail to provide cities with an alternate source of revenue, such as a share of the state income tax. …
