School Board Elections Involve Variety of Issues.

The three Santa Fe school board members elected today will be asked to make far-reaching decisions that involve finances as well as policies about movies in the classrooms, dress codes and security.

As part of a five-member team, they will review the superintendent's contract and approve salary increases for employees.

They will be charged with doing their part to curb the district's high-school dropout rate of 12 percent, the second highest in the state in 1998-99. And they will be faced with decisions about preserving old schools and erecting new ones.

The polls will be open today from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Ask any active parent about the needs of the schools in Districts 2, 3 and 5 and you will get an earful. …
