Utah Pulls Away Late for Key Conference Home Victory

SALT LAKE CITY The University of New Mexico men's basketball team finally got offensive here Monday night.

Then the Lobos turned offensive in losing 80-69 to Utah in a key Mountain West Conference game.

UNM (13-7, 3-4) negated one of its finest shooting outings of the season by playing lackluster defense and losing its intensity in the stretch. It was the Lobos' fourth straight road loss, the longest skid in six years.

"(The Utes) got them," UNM coach Fran Fraschilla said of nearly every loose ball. "They played like a team desperate for a win; we played like a team out for a Sunday stroll, not expecting to win."

New Mexico isn't the first team to stroll out of this road trip with a pair of losses, and it likely won't be the last this season. …
