Action Deferred on Condemnation Suit Bill.(Metro & New Mexico)

In other business on Monday, City Council:

* Deferred action on a bill sponsored by Councilor Hess Yntema that would require council approval of condemnation lawsuits, including the city's ongoing effort to obtain a Downtown parking lot owned by businessman Don Hyder.

Yntema said he wants to broaden the bill to include any condemnation that would transfer ownership from one private developer to another. His original bill, introduced in December, would apply only to condemnations Downtown.

"We need to look at private-profit conveyances in a different way than conveyances for roads," Yntema said during a break at the City Council meeting. …
