To the Chinese, water plays a big part in the peacefulness and livability of a house. That is why Joe Rivera of Bright Morning Star Homes wanted to have as many water features as possible in his latest High Desert home, a three-bedroom design that costs $575,000.

That he was successful can be determined simply by walking down the sidewalk past the house.

The delightful tinkling of water rolling off rock ledges is heard.

Inside the walled courtyard of the 3,400-square-foot house, stacked sandstone is layered above a pool, with cascades glittering in the sun as the water falls off the rock on its way down. …
