* Images of Mexico rich with symbolism and metaphor

The work of one of Mexico's most celebrated and influential photographers appears in "Images of the Spirit: Photographs by Graciela Iturbide" opening Friday, Feb. 9, at the New Mexico Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe.

The museum has scheduled a free reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday.

Iturbide's imagery explores the poetry of the ordinary, issues of national identity and Mexico's dynamic cultural landscape in an exhibition that originated at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It fully represents her art in 100 gelatin silver prints.

"For more than three decades, Graciela Iturbide has made the human tapestry her subject, revealing everyday dramas and extraordinary rituals throughout Mexico," said Aline Brandauer, curator of contemporary art at the Museum of Fine Arts. …
