First-ever festival immerses audiences in Mozart.(Arts & Culture)

Some claim that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's music can make you smarter.

The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra isn't making that point, but it is hoping immersion in Mozart's music will be fun for listeners.

The popularity of his music has lived on long after his death 210 years ago. Annual Mozart festivals are presented worldwide, but this is the first time for Albuquerque, said NMSO executive director Kevin Hagen.

The NMSO is presenting a Mozart festival Friday, Saturday and Feb. 11 at the KiMo Theatre.

The festival conductor is Guillermo Figueroa of New York City, who is the concertmaster of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. …
