* Woman who started group that aids the needy is among those nominated for Coronado Center Hero Wall

Julie Quering had a concept: "Everybody has a gift. Everybody has something others don't have. If everybody got together, there wouldn't be a need."

With that in mind, she said a prayer just before Christmas three years ago. "I told God, 'I can do it if you give me the means and give me the people.' "

That was all it took. She and the women she works with at the Blue Dolphin Hair Studio found a family in need. "We gave them Christmas," says Quering, 43. "The tree, the presents, everything."

With that one deed, the ball was rolling, and Saints Awakening was launched. Because of her single-minded efforts, Quering was nominated for the Hero Wall at Coronado Center.

The Hero Wall, co-sponsored by the Albuquerque Journal, Coronado Center and KRQE-TV, Channel 13, is part of the national HEROICS program, or Helping Everyone Reach Out in Community Service. …
