BYU Takes Last-Minute Victory Over New Mexico.(Sports)

The Xtreme Football League might have played its debut games Saturday night, but that wacky organization could not have topped the drama of the New Mexico-Brigham Young women's basketball game in the Pit before 11,067 crazed fans.

The game had a little bit of everything the game of women's basketball has to offer except a win for the Lobos.

The Cougars, behind 31 points from Erin Thorn a freshman All-American last season and the poised play of freshman Julie Whetten from Silver City, stopped the Lobos 79-72.

UNM and BYU both stand 4-3 in the Mountain West Conference, 13-8 and 12-8 overall, respectively. More important, however, is that the Lobos have lost two home conference games in the Pit.

The game came down to the final minute.

With 1:01 left, Lobos sophomore post Jordan Adams hit a 3-pointer to pull UNM to within one, 73-72. …
