* Business coalition, teachers union, battling for seats on APS school board, differ on issues

Depending on who wins in Tuesday's Albuquerque school board election, the district might lengthen school days, adopt a more businesslike approach to education or cut the budget for teacher raises.

If candidates endorsed by a local business coalition win, the district might see a shift toward more school autonomy.

If candidates backed by the Albuquerque Teachers Federation win, the board might push the administration to find money for teacher salaries and training.

This election is considered by many to be the most important school vote in years because of a widespread push to reform education. …
