Councilor's Resolution Would End Mail-In Vote.(Metropolitan)

* Some city officials believe more voters send in ballots than cast them in person

Mail-in elections invite fraud, says an Albuquerque councilor who wants to bar the practice here.

"I believe there is much to be said for presenting yourself at a polling place and casting your vote," said Councilor Hess Yntema.

Yntema plans to introduce a resolution that would prohibit the city from holding mail-in elections. He said his proposal would not affect Bernalillo County.

Voting at a polling place "emphasizes the importance of the vote, and the civic nature of the vote," Yntema said.

Other city officials said mail-in elections increase voter participation and make the election process more democratic. …
