Veloz's Single in the 9th Gives Ags Win Vs. Lobos.(Sports)

LAS CRUCES Presley Askew Field at New Mexico State has seen its share of baseball slugfests over the last few years.

Friday's game between the Aggies and New Mexico lived up to the long-standing Askew tradition as the Aggies came out on top 12-11 in a contest that lasted more than four hours.

NMSU scored the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth on a run-scoring single by third baseman Gabe Veloz. Cory Harrington was hit by a Jeff Perez pitch, then was sacrificed to second and stole third before Veloz drove him in.

The Ags improved to 4-0, while the game was the opener for the Lobos.

UNM managed to draw first blood in the top of the second inning as center fielder Mark Okano walked and later scored. …
