Scorpions Run Out of Miracles.(Sports)

This time, there would be no miracle finish for the New Mexico Scorpions as Odessa, the team they love to torment, finally managed to win a close one Friday night.

New Mexico entered the Western Professional Hockey League game having won five of six meetings, including three in overtime shootouts. But the Jackalopes bounced out a hot goaltender in Grant Sjerven, who stymied the Scorps in a 2-1 decision in front of 4,002 fans at Tingley Coliseum.

New Mexico uncorked 36 shots, but Sjerven was up to the task.
