Fed Reimbursements Boost State Medicare HMO Programs.(Business)

New Mexico's health plans are rolling out some new Medicare HMO programs and reinstating services, thanks to improved reimbursements enacted by Congress in December.

St. Joseph Healthcare, which had announced it would pull out of the Medicare Plus Choice market, is back in business. Presbyterian Health Plan and Lovelace Health Systems are using the payment increases to improve their plans and serve more patients.

Medicare Plus Choice reimbursement rates were increased from $430 per patient per month to $525 in metropolitan statistical areas with populations of 250,000 or more, and from $415 to $475 in less populated areas. …
