Campaign Raises Cash for Purchases

SANTA FE Thursday started out like any other day for JR Trujillo.

The 40-year-old Espanola native and father of two climbed out of bed at 4:30 a.m. and pumped iron for an hour at the Atlas Gym.

On his way back home, Trujillo picked up the day's newspaper. The black-and-white print on the page stopped Trujillo cold.

"My blood pressure rose more than it did in the gym," Trujillo, owner of QUICKfix ACE Home Improvement Centers in Espanola, said Thursday. "I was very unhappy with what I read."

On Tuesday night, Trujillo learned, the Espanola City Council voted 4-3 to auction off more than 100 guns seized by the city police department despite a proposal by some residents to create an anti-violence sculpture with them. …
