Education Plan Loses Supporter.(Metropolitan)

The Albuquerque branch of the NAACP is no longer backing an education-reform plan put together by the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and other groups.

Local NAACP President Harold Bailey, in a letter sent Thursday to chamber president Terri Cole, said the chapter's endorsement of the chamber plan is withdrawn.

"We're open to discussing positive changes in the educational system," Bailey said in a phone interview. "But there are key elements missing in the chamber's educational plan."

Jesse Dompreh, previous president of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, publicly endorsed the plan last year. …
