Funds To Aid Compliance And Assistive Technology

WASHINGTON President Bush on Thursday announced a plan to build on the Americans with Disabilities Act his father signed into law 11 years ago.

Bush, making good on a campaign pledge, said his "New Freedom Initiative" would help improve the lives of millions of Americans with physical and mental disabilities.

The legislative package includes proposals ranging from low-interest loans to help make assistance technology more affordable to state grants that would help the disabled work from home.

Bush, who sat behind a low podium during his speech as a gesture to those in wheelchairs, said his proposals are designed to compliment the ADA. …
