Two coyote attacks of pet dogs were reported in Corrales on Thursday morning, including a Jack Russell terrier that was nearly killed after having its throat ripped open Wednesday night.

"If there wasn't an intervention, clearly the dog would be gone," Dr. Michael Riegger at the Northwest Animal Clinic said Thursday.

Riegger said the terrier, named Kirby, will recover but needed about 60 stitches in its neck after being bit while in its owner's yard in the northeast area of Corrales.

Corrales Senior Animal Control Officer Pam George said Thursday the other coyote attack happened around 5 a.m. and was less serious. …
