Opponent's Technical Proves Pivotal Point

LAS VEGAS, N.M. In Thursday's clash of Class 3-A titans, cooler heads prevailed.

Capitalizing on a critical technical foul early in the fourth quarter, second-ranked Pojoaque turned a three-point lead into a nine-point cushion en route to a 66-56 victory over top-ranked West Las Vegas in District 2-3A action.

"The difference was we lost our composure and they didn't," said West Las Vegas head coach David Bustos. "There were a lot of things involved in how it happened, but I'll take the blame for it. We'll make an effort to make sure it doesn't happen again."

Trailing 43-42 entering the final quarter, the Dons (14-3, 2-2) gave up a pair of free throws to Pojoaque's Gene Gonzales just before the roof all but caved in. …
