Contractor Considered For School.

The builder of Rio Rancho High School is expected to design and build the city's new eighth- and ninth-grade campus.

The Rio Rancho school board agreed Monday night to enter into negotiations with Bradbury and Stamm of Albuquerque for the $21 million project.

Bradbury and Stamm's proposal for the campus calls for about 210,000 square feet, including 70 classrooms, 14 laboratories, seven arts-related classrooms, a gymnasium, five athletic fields and a commons building.

The school will be built as a "design-build" project, similar to the procedure used for Rio Rancho High School. It allows the contractor and architect to jointly design the school during the construction process, based on curriculum plans and the $21 million set aside for the project. …
