Woman Gets 3 Years Probation In Wreck That Killed a Mother

A 22-year-old woman won't do jail time for her involvement in a 1998 one-car crash on Interstate 25 that killed a mother of two.

Denise Godinez of Albuquerque was sentenced Monday by 13th Judicial District Court Judge Louis P. McDonald to three years probation after entering Alford pleas to two counts of attempted aggravated battery, as part of a deal struck with prosecutors.

In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but concedes he or she could be convicted at trial.

In April 1999, a Sandoval County grand jury indicted Godinez on charges of homicide by vehicle, great bodily injury by vehicle, driving while under the influence, two counts of child abuse, failure to maintain traffic lanes, careless driving and a minor in possession of alcohol. …
