Fire Victims To Get FEMA Responses.

AROUND NORTHERN NEW MEXICO

Cerro Grande Fire victims who filed notice of their losses with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in August and September will receive letters this week with instructions on how to close out their claims.

The federal agency, in charge of handling claims from the May wildfire, is required by federal law to complete the claims within 180 days of a victim's notice of loss filing.

The deadline for closing out the first loss notices is Feb. 28. A spokesman for the FEMA office handling the claims said 750 letters will be sent out this week to those who had filed shortly after passage of a federal law approving compensation for Cerro Grande Fire victims. …
