Neighbor Says Fish Poison Harmed Area.

Dan Howe said he just wants to be convinced.

The last time his neighbors, the Jicarilla Apache tribe, tried killing off brook trout in Poso Creek three years ago, their poison drifted downstream and unintentionally wiped out hundreds of fish on private land, he said.

It might also be behind the ghastly birth defects of his neighbor's sheep, he said.

The tribe, now teamed up with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, wants to do another treatment this time trickling the same poison, Fintrol, in three miles of Poso Creek on off-reservation land the tribe bought five years ago. Howe's property lies near Canones Creek, which Poso Creek spills into. …
