Sen. Says Feds Have Agreed To Stop Reduction Request

A proposed $150 million cut to the Cerro Grande Fire claims fund was stopped dead in its tracks Friday.

The cut had been a part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's $2 billion budget request for fiscal 2002. President Bush reported his budget requests Wednesday.

Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., and chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, exacted a promise Friday from the federal Office of Management and Budget's director that the cut would be erased from the request, the senator's office reported Friday.

The senator agrees with the Bush administration that federal spending should be cut. …
