Odor Control May Hike Rates.(Metro & New Mexico)

* A typical residential bill could increase by 41 cents a month to pay for reducing sewer smells

Residents would pay an additional 1 percent on water and sewer bills to help pay for odor control, under a plan Mayor Jim Baca proposed Friday.

The increase would take effect May 1 if approved by the City Council.

It would be in addition to a 7 percent rate increase councilors approved last year to pay for utility operating costs and the San Juan-Chama water diversion project. That increase also is scheduled to take effect May 1.

The 1 percent rate increase would raise the cost of a typical residential bill by 41 cents a month, utility officials estimate. …
